ELLISVILLE – Three Jones County Junior College head coaches were recently named Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) Community College Coach of the Year in their respective sports.
Steve Buckley was honored in football, Missy Bilderback was recognized in women's basketball and Brooks Buffington got top honors in women's tennis.
They were all recognized during the annual MAC Coaches Hall of Fame Banquet on June 22 at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson.
Buckley led the Bobcats to an 8-2 record in 2017 and the MACJC South Division championship. In two seasons at Jones, Buckley has posted a 14-5 record.
Bilderback guided the Lady Bobcats to their second straight MACJC and Region 23 Tournament titles and a second straight appearance in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Lubbock, Texas. The Lady Bobcats ended the season at 26-4 and are 75-8 in Bilderback's three seasons as head coach.
Buffington led the Lady Bobcats to a 15-3 record and the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament championship. The Lady Bobcats finished 13th in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Waco, Texas, which was the highest DI finish ever for a JCJC women's tennis team.
Buffington has coached the Lady Bobcats to two straight national tournament appearances and a 24-8 regular season record in his two seasons as head coach.
