No. 8 Bobcats drop doubleheader to Blackhawks

ELLISVILLE – The 8th-rated Jones College Bobcats had a tough day on the diamond here Friday at Community Bank Park.
 
Southeastern Community College (Iowa) swept the Bobcats, winning 17-6 in 8 innings in game one and 13-3 in game two.
 
Jones drops to 1-4 on the season. 
 
The Bobcats visit Brewton, Alabama, to play Coastal Alabama-East in a noon doubleheader on Tuesday. Jones is schedule to play in Bay Minette, Alabama, on Friday. JC faces No. 7 Northwest Florida at noon and Coastal Alabama-South at 4 p.m.
 
It was the opening doubleheader of the year for the Blackhawks.
 
SSC goes to Meridian for a pair of games on Saturday.
 
Blackhawks 17, Bobcats 6

SSC pounded out 14 hits vs. five Jones pitchers. The Bobcats also walked seven batters and hit six in the scheduled nine-inning game.
 
The Blackhawks scored in the top of the first inning. Jones got a run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by Gabe Lacy (Gulfport).
 
Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the second, the Bobcats tied it with two runs. Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central) drew a two-out walk and scored on a double by Basiel Williams Jr.(Ponchatoula, Louisiana). Kirkland Trahan's (Madison Central) double scored Williams.
 
SCC then took command in the top of the third inning when they sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs to take an 8-3 lead.
 
Jones made it 8-4 in the fifth when O'Neill Burgos (Brookhaven Academy) was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Blake Johnson (Gulfport).
 
The Blackhawks made it 10-4 in the seventh and sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the top of the eighth.
 
The Bobcats got two runs in the bottom of the eighth when Tanner Morgan (Sumrall) and Colson Harris (West Jones) were hit by pitches and scored on a triple by Williams.
 
Williams tripled, doubled and had three RBIs for Jones. Trahan had a double with Burgos, Lacy and Johnson adding singles.
 
Starter Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) went 2.2 innings, allowing six hits, and took the loss. Andrew Nix (Stringer) pitched 3.1 innings, (Trevor Waddell (Madison Central) pitched an inning, Jacob Mouriz (Marrero, Louisiana) pitched 0.2 innings and (Landon Rascoe (Hattiesburg) got the final out.
 
Oscar Sanabria had three doubles, a single and five RBis to pace the Blackhawks. Carlos Pinero, Lincoln Riley, Kyle Lehmann and Carlos Medina each had a pair of hits.
 
Starting pitcher Chase Keeney went 4.2 innings and got the win, allowing four runs and five hits. Braden Harrison, Josh Hoffman and Reece Wissinger also pitched for SSC.
 
Blackhawks 13, Bobcats 3
 
Jones took a 1-0 lead in the first when Hutchinson doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Burgos.
 
SCC responded with two runs in the top of the second and added four more runs in the third.
 
Jones made it 6-2 in the bottom of the third when Hutchinson walked and Trahan and Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) followed with singles.
 
Hutchinson led off the fifth with a double and later scored on Hunter Richardson's (Enterprise-Lincoln) infield hit to make it 6-3.
 
But the Blackhawks put the game away in the top of the seventh when they sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs.
 
Hutchinson doubled twice and scored all of JC's runs. Trahan and Hendon each singled twice and Richardson and Johnson both had a single.
 
Starter Cade Killingsworth (North Pike) went two-plus innings, allowed four runs and four hits and took the loss. Cole Mozingo (Northeast Jones) pitched 3.0 innings and Garrett Langrell (Bay) pitched the final 2.0 innings.
 
Tyler Oberbroecking tripled, singled and drove in three runs for the Blackhawks. Sanabria and Jack Haufle each had a pair of hits.
 
SCC starter Logan Agan went 4.0 innings and got the win. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven. Hoffman pitched .1 of an inning and had a strike out. Kyle Amendt went the final 2.2 innings and got a save. He had four Ks to give SSC a combined 12 strikeouts.
