Bulldogs lose twice to Delta

Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped a pair of non-conference games to Mississippi Delta on Monday, losing 8-7 and 13-5 in Vicksburg.

The Bulldogs (4-6) fought back from a two-run deficit in the fifth inning of the first game to take a 7-5 lead. Louis Morgan (So., East Central, Hurley) started the two-out rally with a solo home run, and Nick Sims (So., New Hope, New Hope) doubled in a run ahead of a two-run homer by Connor Spencer (Fr., Hernando, Hernando).

It was his first of two home runs on the day.

Delta (5-5) got a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to tie it back up, then won it on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.

Cameron Cotten (So., George County, Lucedale) had a home run earlier in the game. He also had a double, joining Spencer and Dawson Walters (Fr., Tri-County Academy, Flora) with two hits.

Both teams hit three home runs in the first game, but Delta was just warming up. The Trojans hit six in the second game. The Bulldogs managed two, but only had six hits in the game. Jared Tribett (Fr., Lumberton, Lumberton) had a three-run homer in the seventh.

Gulf Coast returns to Ken "Curly" Farris Field on Friday when Northwest Florida State visits. First pitch in the doubleheader at Perk is set for noon.
