CLARKSDALE- Last season, Coahoma had a night they hoped to forget in Senatobia, Mississippi. Northwest Mississippi Community College outplayed and outmuscled the Tigers in a 35-0 victory. The Rangers went on to win the MACJC North Division title. Coahoma will have the opportunity for payback at home against no. 5 Northwest on Thursday Night.
Coahoma (0-6, 0-3 MACJC North) is coming off of a 48-19 loss to Hinds. They had 386 yards of total offense including 199 passing yards and 187 rushing yards. Myron Norfleet led the Tigers with 17 of 21 passes for 199 yards, 17 carries for 75 yards and three touchdowns. Jaylin Jones had 21 carries for 139 yards. Stefan Harmon finished with five catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. Donnie Corley had five catches, 44 yards and a touchdown.
Tony Bowman, Will Robinson, and Demetric Vance led the defense with seven tackles. Bowman also had 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Coahoma Head Coach Steven Miller wants his team to play fearlessly with intensity.
"There's a lot of things that we can match up with Northeast to keep the game in hand," said Miller. "We've played three ranked teams in the next three weeks. Any victory in the next three weeks would be big for the program."
Northwest (5-1, 2-1 MACJC North) is coming off a 34-6 loss to no. 1 East Mississippi. They had 98 yards of total offense including 118 passing yards and -20 rushing yards. Jacob Free led the Rangers with 13 of 34 passes for 111 yards and an interception. Chris Calvert had 13 carries for 43 yards.
The Rangers' defense gave up 369 yards of total offense including 200 rushing yards and 169 passing yards.
The game is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 at the James E. Miller stadium. All eyes will be watching the kickoff set for 7 p.m. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch and on Coahoma's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
