Northwest Ranked Eighth in College Football America Preseason Poll

SENATOBIA – With kickoff of the 2019 season just weeks away, the Northwest football program continues to garner national recognition as the Rangers have been labeled No. 8 in College Football America Yearbook's 2019 Preseason JUCO Top 30 poll, the organization announced Monday morning.

Compiled by Kendall Webb and Matthew Postins, the publication features more than 930 college football teams from the United States and Canada, including every team from the NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III), NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA and U Sports (Canada). The publication is available in print edition at Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and online through Amazon.

Defending NJCAA national champion East Mississippi tops the rankings with Garden City (Kan.) following at No. 2 overall. Riverside (Calif.), Iowa Western and Butte round out the top five in order.

Other MACJC members ranked include reigning MACJC South Division champs Jones College at No. 7 and Mississippi Gulf Coast at No. 25.

This is the third preseason national ranking to feature Northwest as the Rangers were also ranked seventh nationally by and 12th by Street & Smith's.

Northwest is coming off an 8-2 season, which yielded a fifth straight postseason appearance and the eighth playoff berth in the last nine seasons. The Rangers postseason run came to a heartbreaking end with a 36-34 loss to Jones College in the first round of the MACJC Playoffs.

Since taking over the reins as head coach in 2016, Benjy Parker has guided the Rangers to a pair of bowl appearances and a combined record of 25-8 overall and 15-3 within the MACJC.

Northwest will kickoff the 2019 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. with a road battle at East Central.
