The Bears' home debut did not go as planned Thursday night as the East Central Warriors came to Summit and left with a 19-0 victory in the first MACJC South Division contest for both teams.
East Central scored the only points necessary in the 2nd quarter when Holman Edwards fired a 51-yard touchdown pass to Depodary Coburn with 13:58 on the clock.
East Central (2-1, 1-0 South) went on to lead 12-0 at the end of the first half. They scored the final points of the game on a 58-yard rushing touchdown by JD Martin late in the 3rd quarter.
Keyvont Baines and Ja'Tyler Moore combined to complete 12 of 21 passes for the Bears (0-3, 0-1 South) for 80 yards. Moore had one pass intercepted. Zarious Keyes and Demarius Turner carried the ball for 21 and 20 yards, respectively.
The Bears had nine first downs in the game and were penalized nine times for 79 yards. Jack Runnels averaged 37.1 yards on eight punts.
Martin led the Warriors' offense with 153 yards, and a touchdown, on 22 carries. Edwards completed 13 of 19 passes for 104 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The Warriors registered 13 first downs in the game and were penalized eight times for 73 yards. Robens Beauplan punted seven times for 40.9 yards.
The Bears return to the field on September 19 when they travel to Raymond to face the Hinds Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30.
