The Northwest Rangers and East MS Lions have squared off 68 times and certainly are one of the best and most anticipated rivals in JUCO football.

Northwest: 42

East MS:    25

Tie:             1

East MS has won nine of the last eleven meetings.

This game always plays a major factor on whether or not each qualifies for the post season and directly affects their national ranking, often with the winner remaining in the hunt to play for a national title.  The two programs have dominated conference division play by combining to win the last 12 MACJC North Division regular-season football titles with EMCC winning nine times and Northwest winning three times.

Legendary coaches have patrolled the sidelines for both of these fan and media favorite teams.

Head coach Bobby Franklin (1981-2004) is the fifth Winningest NJCAA Football Coach of all-time with a record of 201-57-6.

Current Northwest head coach Benjy Parker  is coming off an 8-3 season in 2019 and an appearance in the MACJC conference championship game.

East MS

Head coach Buddy Stephens has an impressive head coaching record of 116-17 (.872), with five NJCAA national championships, seven MACJC State/NJCAA Region 23 titles, and nine MACJC North Division crowns in his twelve years as head coach of the Lions.

Head coach Bob "Bull" Sullivan (1950-52 and 1956-1968) left an indelible mark in the Lion's program.  Sports Illustrated writer Frank Deford listed him as "the toughest coach there ever was."
