For 60 years the Northeast Tigers (Booneville, MS)  and Itawamba Indians (Fulton, MS)  have been north division league rivals.

Geographically, the schools sit just 40 minutes apart in Northern Mississippi.

As an added twist to these capacity crowd contests, both institutions have outstanding band programs and fans always enjoy the traditional "Battle of the Bands" after each game.

As with many of the Mississippi rivalries, this Tiger/Indian matchup always plays a major role for playoff berths for each program.

Last season, in a close contest, Northeast defeated Itawamba with a final score of 14-12.   That loss by Itawamba factored into the Indians not qualifying for the post season.

The all-time series is led by Itawamba:  39-18-3.

Legendary coaches have participated in this rivalry.

Itawamba head coach Mike Eaton coached from 1976-1992.  He compiled an all-time mark of 111-64-7 and won eight North Division titles.

Northeast head coach Bill Ward (1968-1982) guided the Tiger program for 15 seasons and secured Northeast's first major championship in 30 years in 1980 by winning the inaugural (MACJC) North Division title.

Current Head Football Coaches are:

Northeast - Greg Davis

Itawamba - Sean Cannon
