No. 12 Lady Bobcats open play in national tennis tournament

TYLER, Texas – The 12th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats began play here Sunday in the NJCAA Division I Tennis Tournament at Tyler Junior College.

It was a tough day for Jones as they managed to win one match. The Lady Bobcats are tied for 25thwith two points.

Collin College (Texas) is first with 18 points. Laredo College (Texas) and North Central Texas College are tied for second with 14 points each.

The tournament is scheduled to end Saturday.

In No. 3 doubles, Danielle Viljoen (Jackson) and Judith Mills (Pontotoc) beat Gabby Herzog and Sara Martin of Barton County (Kansas) 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-0. They will face Britain Botsford and Diarra Thomas of State College of Florida at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

In No. 2 doubles, Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) and Dixie Lei Hodges (Laurel Christian School) lost to Cidney Anders and Paige Stanford of Mesa Community College (Arizona), 2-6, 5-7. They will play Venus Ubiebi and Jenese Fulgenzi of New Mexico Military Institute in a consolation match at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Mireia Jordan (Spain) and Ariadna Jordan (Spain) lost in No. 1 double to the No. 2 seeded team of Michaela Kroskova and Tatiana Simova of ASA Miami, 0-6, 1-6. The Jordan twins will play Meagan Moore and Erika Roman of Berry College (Georgia) at 5:30 p.m. Monday in a consolation match.

In No. 1 singles, Mirieia Jordan lost to Takalani Molaoa of Cowley College (Kansas), 0-6, 6-2. She meets Agustina Diaz of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (Georgia) in a consolation match at 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Ariadna Jordan lost in No. 2 singles to Vinda Teally of New Mexico Military Institute 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 in a match that lasted 2 ½ hours. She faces Sabrina Sanchez of Mesa in a 2:30 p.m. Monday consolation match.

Viljoen fell to Claudia Sumaia of Barton County in No. 3 singles, 3-6. 1-6. She will play a consolation match at 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Craig lost a 1-6, 3-6 match to Carolina Cardosa-Fabbri of North Central Texas College in No. 4 singles. She will play a 4:30 p.m. consolation match on Monday.

Hodges fell to Sofia Guaglianone of Abraham Baldwin 4-6, 1-6 in No. 5 singles. She faces Elaine Holt of Snead State (Alabama) at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the consolation round.

Mills fell to Destiny Garza of Laredo 2-6, 0-6 in No. 6 singles. She plays a 4:30 p.m. Monday consolation match.
