JC Bobcats finish 20th in national tennis tournament

TUCSON, Arizona – The 20th-rated Jones College Bobcats ended play Friday morning in the NJCAA Division I Tennis Tournament at the Reffkin Tennis Center.

Erich Fischer (Wesson) advanced to the finals of the No. 3 singles consolation round and ended up losing 6-2, 6-2 to Eric Holmes. On Thursday, Fischer defeated David Rodriguez of Glendale Community College (Arizona), 6-0, 6-3 in the semifinals.

The Bobcats end the tournament with 6.5 points, which puts them in 20thplace. ASA Miami and Tyler Junior College (Texas) each are tied for the top spot with 44 points entering the final day of competition.
In other Thursday matches, Cody Courtney (Florence) lost a close match to Nicolas Zumba of Iowa Central in the No. 5 singles consolation round semifinals, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

Fischer and Jacob Johnson (North Pike) lost 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles consolation round to Martins Abamu and Iuis Zamorano of New Mexico Military Institute.

Courtney and James McWilliams (Northwest Rankin) lost 6-4, 6-0 to Bruno Brocanelli and Finlay Rowan of Harford College (Maryland) in the No. 3 doubles consolation round.
