ELLISVILLE – It was another sweep for Jones County Junior College in the weekly MACJC softball awards.
Second baseman Callie Venable is the MACJC Player of the Week and Madison Burge is the MACJC Pitcher of the Week.
Last week, Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) was named Pitcher of the Week and Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) was named Player of the Week.
Venable, a sophomore second baseman from Silliman Institute in Clinton, Louisiana, was 6-for-12 (.500) at the plate with four RBIs as she helped the Lady Bobcats claim both the MACJC and Region 23 titles.
In the 8-0 MACJC championship win over Itawamba, she was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a double. In a 4-3 win over East Central in the region tournament, she was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. In a 6-5, 10-inning win over LSU-Eunice, she was 3-for-5 with three singles and two runs scored. In the 10-0 region championship game win over LSU-Eunice, she was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Venable is hitting .393 on the season with four home runs and 40 RBIs.
Burge, a sophomore from Harrison Central, posted the shutout victory in the MACJC title game vs. Itawamba. She went five innings, allowed no runs, two hits, struck out three and walked none. She started and went 6.2 innings in the extra inning win over LSU-Eunice. She allowed five runs, 10 hits and walked none.
Burge is 15-1 with a 2.10 earned run average.
The Lady Bobcats, 49-3, will meet Potomac St. (West Virginia) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the opening round of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament at Traceway Park in Clinton.
