Northeast Second Half Rally Takes Down Coahoma

CLARKSDALE– Coahoma Community College's Lady Tigers wanted to get a great start to the MACJC Northern Division. Northeast Mississippi Community College waited in the wings at The Pinnacle on Monday night. Coahoma had control of the 1st half, but Northeast rallied in the second half for a 92-77 victory in the battle of the Lady Tigers.

 Coahoma had a great 7-2 start when Geneva Walker scored a layup and a three pointer. Walneika Holmes scored a three pointer expanding the lead to 10-4. Northeast bounced back when Aundrea Adams scored a driving layup cutting the lead 11-8. Walker answered with a three extending the lead to 18-11. Coahoma had their biggest lead 23-13 when Holmes knocked down a three pointer.

 Northeast (6-3, 1-0 MACJC North) went on an 8-0 run. Tyra Tucker hit a jumper cutting the lead to 23-21. Coahoma answered with a three by Holmes expanding the lead to 28-21. It was back and fourth in the 1st half for both teams. Late in the 1st half, Nikkeria Harris scored a three pointer to give Coahoma the lead 41-36. Cherelle Jones scored a layup cutting the lead to 41-38 at the half.

 Coahoma maintained a 47-43 lead with 8:30 left in the 3rd quarter. Northeast turned to their post players for some help, and Adams and Jones scored a pair of layups tying the game 47-47. Then Adams scored another layup to give Northeast the lead 49-47.

 Lameka President answered for Coahoma with a pair of layups. Coahoma took the lead with 51-49. The game was tied at 61 a piece with 1:31 left in the 3rd. Northeast ended the quarter on a 7-1 run extending the lead 68-62.

 Northeast took over in the fourth quarter with a 16-4 run. Jada Tubbs scored a layup to give Northeast a commanding 84-66 lead.

 Northeast had three players scored in double figures. Adams led the Lady Tigers with 31 points, including 19 points in the 1st half. She also had eight rebounds and two assists. Jones finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Adallice Young scored 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

 Coahoma had four players scored in double figures. Holmes led the Lady Tigers with 22 points, three rebounds, and five assists. President finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Harris scored 15 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. Walker scored 13 points, three rebounds, and four assists.

 Coahoma goes to 2-8 (0-1 MACJC North) on the season. The Lady Tigers will have a rematch against No. 9 Jones County Junior College. The game is set for 6 p.m. this Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at The Pinnacle.

 It will be part of a double header that's followed by Coahoma vs Jones County men's game at 8 p.m.

 The game will broadcast live at Pregame will begin at 5:45pm.
