AMERICUS, Georgia – The 5th-ranked Jones College Bobcats made the most of a late-scheduled road trip with a top 10 program.
Head coach Missy Bilderback's team never trailed and surprised No. 2 South Georgia Tech 69-57 here Wednesday afternoon at The Hangar.
The game was scheduled on Monday when Jones found out that its two scheduled MACCC games for the week vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast and Pearl River were postponed because of Covid issues with the opposition.
It was JC's second straight win over a top 10 opponent, having defeated Shelton State (Alabama) 69-66 on Feb. 26.
Daisha Bradford (Mobile, Alabama) had 21 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists to top the Bobcats. Jayla Alexander (Pearl) had 18 points and Jakayla Johnson (Clinton) added 15. Kyjai Miles (Dallas, Texas) had 11 rebounds.
Jones jumped out to an 11-0 lead and led 17-5 after the first quarter. The Lady Jets fought back to within 30-29 at halftime, but the Bobcats extended the margin back to 55-42 after three quarters. SGT could only get within eight points in the final quarter.
The Bobcats limited SGT to a 33 percent shooting day from the floor. SGT outrebounded Jones, 48-44.
Jones was 27-of-73 from the field for 37 percent and hit 7-of-26 3-pointers for 27 percent. The Bobcats made 8-of-10 foul shots for 80 percent.
The Bobcats are now 8-0 and have won 21 of its last 22 regular season games. Jones is scheduled to host East Central at 6 p.m. on March 1. The game will air on JCJC.TV.
South Georgia Tech, 11-1, hosts New Horizon Prep at noon on Feb. 27.
