Five MS JUCO Baseball programs ranked in NJCAA preseason top 20

Mississippi JUCO baseball has a strong reputation nationally.  That is evident once again as the league boasts five programs ranked in the top 12 nationally in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) preseason poll.

The ranked teams are No. 4 Northwest, No. 7 Pearl River, No. 9 Hinds, No. 11 Northeast, and No. 12 Jones.

The Northwest Rangers No 4 ranking is the highest preseason ranking in 18 years and the highest since head coach Mark Carson took over the head coaching duties in 2006.

Pearl River ranks seventh. Head coach Michael Avalon enters his fifth season as the Wildcats head coach and this marks the third straight season that PRCC opens up ranked in the top 10 nationally.

The Hinds Eagles are led by Sam Temple, who is in his 16th season, as the Eagles skipper.  During the 2019 season, Temple secured his 400th win as the Eagles coach. He collected 421 career wins entering this year.

Northeast head coach Richy Harrelson has been the head coach of the baseball program since 2016.

For Jones, head coach Chris Kirtland is starting his sixth season, and is 181-47 (.794). He owns a NJCAA Division II national championship in 2016.
